At the March 13th public meeting of the MAG (McMillan Advisory Group), attendees were given a brief presentation by CulturalDC on themes and ideas for the public art component of the McMillan Master Plan.  Participants had a few questions on the presentation, which CulturalDC has provided answers to below.

1. Does HPRB have a say with any of this – messing with manhole covers, lights on silos, etc.?

Currently, the public art plan for McMillian is still in the planning stage. We are developing concepts that will meet the expectations of  HPRB – i.e. that any rehabilitation of historic resources meet the Secretary of the Interiors standards AND that preserved resources be adapted and activated wherever possible.

2. So concept stage is late to respond, want to make sure?

We are still in the research gathering process and welcome community input on public art at McMillan. We are committed to engaging the  community so that the public art reflects the identity and values of the surrounding neighborhoods as well as the historic significance of McMillan.

3. Allow for temporary seasonal art in some spaces?

One of the potential elements we are exploring is a place(s) where rotating and/or temporary seasonal art can be showcased. As the plan takes shape, we will consider ways to incorporate temporary seasonal art and keep the art programming innovative and relevant to the community.
